4 Ways Honda Is Championing Sustainability

Category : News

Sustainability and environmentalism have always been pillars in which Honda has abided by throughout the years. There is a roadmap to sustainability in which Honda is planning; the company plans to electrify its mainstream models in Europe by 2022, and plans to only sell zero-emissions vehicles globally by 2040. By 2050, the company and all its products will be carbon neutral.

It’s a big challenge, but Honda is more than capable of stepping up to the plate. Honda’s long tradition of environmentalism started back in 1999 with the world’s first globally available Hybrid car, the Honda Insight, and they have stepped up further since. In 2014, the company became the first car manufacturer to openly disclose the CO2 emissions caused by its vehicles.

It is these small steps that will help Honda reach its bigger targets down the road. Here are 5ways in which Honda is setting the standard in sustainability as it strides towards the “zero environmental impact” goal.

1. Electric batteries with second life

As the automotive market pushes ahead to electrify their vehicles, Honda is anticipating 4 in 10 of their cars in most of their major markets will be electric; either battery-electric or fuel cell electric vehicles.

EVs are seen to be an important part of meeting the global goals on climate changes, with EVs being the present and future of this environmental push.

And at the forefront of it all, recycling carbon-neutral electric cars plays a crucial part in maintaining the environmental benefits. While most parts of an EV can be recycled the same way standard vehicles are able to, the lithium-ion batteries require a different approach. Honda’s approach is to give these batteries a second life by using these batteries for renewable energy storage. Using the parts harvested from a used battery, they can also create new batteries, including the valuable materials such as cobalt and lithium extracted using complex chemistry to add to production.

This helps immensely in keeping EVs environmentally friendly.

2. Using the best transport method

Whether it’s using the highways to the waterways, Honda is determined to use the best transport method for the job, which helps them build its cars in a greener way. In Europe, Honda was especially creative in transporting materials needed to build its cars, using the canals of Belgium, and barges for transportation instead of trucks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the road. This move has saved more than 14 tons of CO2 since June 2019, and is praised by sustainability experts around the world.

3. Halving life-cycle emissions

Transparency around emissions is nothing new to Honda. Back in 2012, it became the first in the industry to disclose estimated CO2 emissions from product use. Since then, climate change has intensified the need to reduce emissions.

Honda has set an ambitious target to significantly reduce emissions, as part of its wider response to climate change. The goal? By 2050, it aims to halve total product life cycle CO2 emissions (compared with 2000 levels) – equivalent to reducing tailpipe emissions by 80-90%.

Another way Honda has responded has been to commit to an electric future. A recent study by Cambridge University found electric cars have up to 70% lower average lifetime emissions than petrol cars, in countries where most of the energy comes from renewable and nuclear sources, such as France and Sweden.

Such is Honda’s commitment to electric vehicles that by 2040, 100% of vehicles will be electric.

4. Planting trees

Honda is committed to conservation and biodiversity, which simply means the plants and animals in a part of the world. Trees are hugely important to biodiversity because so much life is dependent on them. In the 1960s, Honda started planting trees in its native Japan. It followed this up in the mid-1970s with its Community Forest Programme.

By 2011, Honda underlined its commitment by launching its own biodiversity guidelines. These recognised “that biodiversity conservation initiatives are an essential part of our commitment to the preservation of the global environment.”

From planting trees to pioneering second-life use of electric car batteries, Honda’s commitment to the environment goes way beyond its electric cars. The future, and the environment will be better for it.

Simplicity is Honda’s New Interior Design Language

Category : News

As the tastes of the world are changing, simplicity is something that modern brands are gearing up towards. Likewise, Honda is wholeheartedly supporting this endeavor with their future interior design language from 2021 and beyond.

As cars are becoming increasingly high-tech, with digital instrument clusters and infotainment systems cluttering up the interior, it’s high time to take a step back and bring back the interiors that are free from visual clutter.

Dubbed simplicity and “something”, Honda is showcasing a direction that aims to move away from the cluttered, overwhelming approach some automakers and cars have brought to the masses. The company’s main focus is to reduce the complexity of the interior layout, which creates a more advanced user experience overall.

Another key element is the approach to maximize the cabin space, while minimizing space needed for mechanical and electronic components.

This is a design philosophy that is based on the classic human-centered designs of early Honda vehicles, in which Honda is looking to reduce the complexity in which vehicles are built.

The concept is simple: “simplicity” will be Honda’s design language for the whole model range, while “something” will be the personality and appeal unique to each model.

“Simplicity in design requires not only a strong philosophy, but a discipline toward the user experience,” Jonathan Norman, Creative Lead for Honda Interior Design in the United States, said. “We’ve heard from designers working for other brands who say they were inspired by the simple, human-centered design of old Hondas.”

One thing that won’t change that much compared to the current interior design language of the brand is the focus on thin pillars, a low cowl, and a large greenhouse. This creates a roomy feeling inside the cabin, as well as excellent visibility with a clear view of the road and the environment outside.

“We are pursuing this design language with new Hondas we’re designing in the studio now,” Norman said. “It’s our ‘simple’ approach to design with the ‘and something’ that will help differentiate each product and make your future Honda vehicles something you want to drive and are excited to use.”

The 2022 Honda Civic is the automaker’s first foray into its new interior design concept. The Honda Civic has been in production since 1972 and is currently in its tenth-gen version, while the 2022 model is expected to make its debut this year Honda has officially revealed the 2022 Civic, the eleventh generation version that is set to go on sale later this year.

Here are some of the top changes you can expect for the latest Honda Civic 2022 model.

1. Styling

The design of the new-gen Civic has drawn inspiration from the Accord. Honda seems to have aimed for a clean and mature look for the 2022 Civic following the new philosophy of ‘Man-Maximum, Machine Minimum’, bidding farewell to the curvy yet angular design, while still managing to retain the sporty character of the car.

2. Interior

The 2022 Honda Civic has adopted the new “Simplicity and Something” interior design ethos. The real goal is introducing an uncluttered layout with lesser distractions as well as fewer infrequently used buttons. The interior of the new model looks much more premium and cleaner than the outgoing model. There are fewer buttons, but physical controls have been retained. The sedan features a retro-looking band of hexagonal mesh that integrates the A/C vents, along with a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. The steering wheel is also new, as well as the rest of the controls.

3. Features

A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system is offered as standard, while the range-topping Touring trim gets a larger 9.0-inch screen along with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered as standard, while the larger screen also allows for wireless mirroring capabilities.

4. Mechanical Updates

The new Civic has been built on a stiffer platform, which serves as a base for its redesigned suspension. The front suspension elements have been tweaked to provide the steering with a stronger self-centring, while the rear suspension has been revised for improved ride quality. Honda also says that the power steering has been tuned to provide an improved steering feel.

The new-gen model aims to further improve the Civic’s foothold globally, and hence, Honda has added more tech, improved fuel economy while also introducing new safety features for the 2022 model year.

With this new interior design ethos, we’re excited to see where Honda will take the design, and we wholeheartedly approve of a simplified and streamlined design.

Are Electric Cars Really More Environmentally Friendly?

Category : News

Since the invention of the first electric vehicles (EVs) back in the 2000s, EVs have become more appealing in a world where reducing carbon emissions and pollution is a growing concern for many people. For one, research has shown that electric cars are better for the environment as they emit less greenhouse gases and air pollutants over their life than a petrol or diesel car.

This comes as Honda is aiming to electrify two-thirds of its global automobile unit sales in 2030. The result is the compact, fully-electric Honda e, which is part of Honda’s desire to improve the environment, particularly in busy urban areas. Engineered from the ground up to deliver a package perfect for the modern urban environment, the all-new Honda e is the ultimate creation based on the brand’s philosophy of human-centered engineering.

In addition, Honda is also looking to strengthen the development of electric vehicles (battery EV) in addition to fuel cell vehicles (FCV).

However, critics have been quick to question the ‘environmentally friendly’ label attached to EVs. From manufacturing concerns to battery power sources, EVs have been under scrutiny from the amount of debate and misinformation being shared by sceptics. The question remains; just how clean and green are EVs?

Today, we’re looking at the many questions about how green and clean they really are. From manufacturing concerns to the way in which electricity is generated, we look at some of the facts surrounding electric cars and their environmental impact.

Deep Dive Into EVs

The fact is that EVs are not zero emissions vehicles. While they do not emit CO2 while being driven, they might do it in 3 other stages: during manufacturing, energy production and at the end of their life cycle.

In the first case, the need for mining activities to extract the rare earth metals that are used in batteries is very energy consuming and polluting. The cycle of making a car starts with raw materials being extracted, refined, transported and manufactured into several components that will be assembled to produce the car itself.

As for the energy production, if the car is being powered with energy from burning fossil fuels, it is still releasing CO2 in the atmosphere, not from the tailpipe but from some distant power plant. In terms of energy production, EVs are known to store energy in large batteries, as the larger they are, the bigger their range is.

These can cause high environmental costs as batteries are often made from rare earth elements (REE) like lithium, nickel, cobalt or graphite that only exist beneath the surface of the Earth and therefore depend on mining activities with very polluting processes.

When it comes to batteries being recycled, it is still an expensive and ongoing process and most batteries are not being recycled yet. For the lithium-ion batteries used in EVs, the very specific mix of chemical components and little quantities of lithium doesn’t make them a viable recyclable material. In fact, this process is not justified by price or regulations to recover it by hydrometallurgical processes.

On The Plus Side

However, with more batteries out there, the more interesting it gets to try to figure out how to recycle them or recapture rare earth elements. So the chances are that a strong recycling industry for these batteries will keep developing and allowing electric cars to become greener.

Another solution might have to do with reusing these batteries and giving them a second life since they are able to support the electric grid of buildings and to store energy from wind or solar electricity sources. This would also help offset the environmental impacts of making the batteries in the first place.

Honda has made its intentions clear to develop their own EV architecture, and aims to build its own by 2024.

“It’s absolutely our intention to produce in our factories,” Honda of America Executive Vice President Dave Gardner said, adding that Honda has developed battery manufacturing expertise from building gas-electric hybrids. “We absolutely intend to utilize that resource.”

On the plus side, EVs do work to give us clean streets making our towns and cities a better place to be for pedestrians and cyclists. Over a year, just one electric car on the roads can save an average 1.5 million grams of CO2. That’s the equivalent of four return flights from London to Barcelona. EVs can also help with noise pollution, especially in cities where speeds are generally low. As the cars are far quieter than conventional vehicles, driving electric creates a more peaceful environment for us all.

There is also a trend now where electrical grids are mostly moving towards reducing their reliance on fossil fuels and increasing their renewable energy production. With electrical vehicles already producing fewer emissions through their lifetime regardless of the energy source, it shows that EVs are indeed the vehicle of the future. Car manufacturers are also accepting the fact that electric cars are less polluting and producing more EVs will help reduce total carbon emissions.

Conclusion

As the technology becomes more mainstream, EVs are likely to become even more efficient and sustainable. Economies of scale will benefit EV manufacturing by providing better infrastructure, more efficient manufacturing techniques, recycling options and reducing the need for the mining of new materials.

Honda’s electric strategy also includes its traditional strength — motorcycles. Honda plans to unveil three new electric two-wheelers by 2024, as well as 10 new EV cars in China within five years (its first mass-produced Honda e, released last year, has a global sales target of 10,000 units annually).

EVs should be seen as a move towards a greener tomorrow, especially when combined with greater deployment of renewables and the decarbonization of the electricity grid they offer a pathway to greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

How Honda’s Great Customer Service Solidifies Its Place in The Automotive Industry

Category : News

It’s time to face the facts; buying a new car isn’t something people do on a whim. It’s an important decision made on a big-ticket item that could potentially last for years, and customers are understandably concerned about getting it right. In fact, research has shown that car purchasing decisions can be influenced by up to 900 different touchpoints!

Plus, we haven’t even explored how the expansion of the digital medium can influence and affect the overall customer journey, with review sites and personal experiences dominating the Internet and leaving potential buyers with more information than ever.

Still, this is part of a broader pattern of shifting automotive industry trends, where millennials are the biggest driving force and demographic in terms of car purchases for the foreseeable future. Adapting to their needs and their behavior will depend greatly on providing them with the best customer service possible.

There are three key points in how customer service should be run within the automotive industry.

1. Defining a common purpose

There is a need to define a common purpose within customer service and experience, from the management to the frontliners. This will ensure that your direction is aligned and reach out to customers on all touchpoints.

2. Analysis of the customer journey

Buying a car is often a long process, and undergoes several different touchpoints. It is important to note how essential it is to analyze this path in an omni-channel way, to be in the right place, at the right time, and with tailored communication.

3. Personalization & customer loyalty

Customer loyalty is extremely important, as more often than not, it will affect the brand loyalty of several generations. To ensure the retention of a customer, it is essential to know more about the customer as an individual. It may be complex, but it brings great possibilities for the future.

This is where Honda’s philosophy comes into play. The Honda approach to customer satisfaction is very much focused on the philosophy of respect for the individual and the Three Joys of buying, selling, and creating. This means that Honda has always worked closely with its dealerships to maximize customer satisfaction. Honda is on hand every step of the way; from purchase to after-sales service, to ensure that dealerships work together with Honda to earn and maintain the trust of customers.

Image From Honda.co.nz

Honda’s customer service and approach works, because they strive to deliver an optimal level of service to customers worldwide based on its philosophy of creating and expanding customer joy worldwide through service. As part of their philosophy, Honda also aims to expand customer joys and create strong bonds linking customers and Honda in different markets worldwide. This includes diversifying their products and tailoring it to different markets to fulfil local customer and market needs.

Honda’s “Start Something Special” campaign in the US is an example of how Honda was cultivating a new level of customer loyalty, engaging customers and sparking dialogue. The campaign basically allowed for customers to share personal stories that demonstrate their love for the brand. The concept builds off the idea that owning a Honda is not just about the car; it’s about the relationship. The campaign worked to emphasize that, to Honda, brand advocates and loyal supporters are much more than customers; they’re family.

As an automotive brand, Honda has incorporated these customer service trends into their overall strategies to stay relevant in future. There include:

  • Identify and digitize key customer touch points.
  • Establish an effective customer feedback process.
  • Experiment with new customer experience ideas.
  • Leverage content and tech.
  • Look beyond the sale

For an industry as huge as automotive, with its complex and typically slower sales dynamics, customer service is important. When it takes, on average, around 15 hours to purchase a car, this is where loyalty is built. It’s easier to sell a new car to a customer who has already had a satisfactory experience with the brand and the dealer.

So, Honda has effectively harnessed and incorporated these customer service automotive industry trends into creating a unique customer experience that builds long lasting relationships.

4 Honda Tech Advancements That Changed The World

Category : News

Honda cars are a symbol of Honda brand’s reliability, durability, and performance. Because of this, the Honda brand has garnered a vast spectrum of brand loyalists, with their more popular models like the Honda City, Honda Civic and the Honda Accord attracting new buyers every year.

Honda Interior

But what makes Honda such a great car to own? Well, in part, this can be attributed to Honda’s continued take on new challenges to deliver to its customers the joy of personal mobility. Recent advances in Honda technology features have set the current lineup of vehicles apart from other carmakers. Today, we’re taking a look at four of the most innovative advancements in Honda technology that took over the world.

Honda VTEC Engine

1. Honda VTEC Engines

In order to develop its next generation of engines for the mainstream market, Honda’s NCE (New Concept Engine) program was launched in March 1984. Engineer Ikuo Kajitani was tasked with the system’s development, with specific targets identified through the program included high torque in both the low- and high-rpm ranges and dramatic increases in horsepower per liter.

This led to the creation of the VTEC (Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control) system, used in Honda vehicles till today. VTEC is a system developed by Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a four-stroke internal combustion engine, resulting in higher performance at high RPM, and lower fuel consumption at low RPM.

For many enthusiasts the VTEC system is a key part of Honda’s identity. As the years went on, Honda continuously improved on their VTEC engine. The i-VTEC, which stands for Intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control dramatically improved fuel consumption of Honda vehicles. Essentially, the technology permits the engine to effectively have multiple camshafts, with the engine’s computer activating alternate lobes on the camshaft and change the cam timing as the engine moves into different RPM ranges.

Honda Sensing

2. Honda SENSING

Safety is a key part in all Honda vehicles, and Honda SENSING technology system was Honda’s solution. Honda SENSING technology offers new kinds of safety, including adding new features like traction and stability control and the standard multi-angle rearview camera, The system is essentially a collection of driver assistance and accident prevention features.

Some of these features include the Lane Departure Warning and the Lane Keeping Assist, which helps to keep drivers alert on the road. Others, like the Adaptive Cruise Control and the Forward Collision Warning used radar technology, to help drivers keep an eye out on the roads in case of accidents. The Collision Mitigation Braking System is Honda’s last attempt to avoid an accident; if it senses you haven’t responded to a possible collision, it can apply the brakes to slow or even stop your vehicle.

Honda Sensing amenities are available on almost every Honda model.

Honda Connect

3. Honda CONNECT

Honda’s mission to provide better and more comprehensive services has led to the Honda CONNECT, which promises safety, security and convenience to users. Born out of the mission to continuously provide better and more comprehensive services, Honda CONNECT is a testament to what the marriage between safety, security and convenience can achieve.

This advanced smart technology that turns your car into an intelligent vehicle that’s always accessible from your smartphone. It includes key features like the Automatic Collision Detection, where vehicles will automatically call for help upon collision and Geo-Fencing Alert where owners will be notified if a car is exiting certain parameters.

Other features such as Find My Car and Emergency Call, aim to provide more support anytime and anywhere for their customer needs. The Remote Vehicle Control is great for convenience, as customers can switch on their Honda car’s air conditioning before they even step into the car.

Ultimately, Honda CONNECT aims to provide customers with a greater sense of security and convenience.

Honda e:HEV

4. Honda e:HEV

As part of its future undertaking into the world of electrification, Honda’s new Advanced Technology comes in the form of the e:HEV; a 2-motor hybrid system where the engine produces electricity which assists the motor. This leads to a more efficient and crisp acceleration that does not sacrifice the comfort and smoothness of the journey due to Honda’s unique control technology.

Using the i-MMD (intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) engine, Honda is able to produce a combination of high-efficiency systems that work to increase the driving distance by the motor alone. This engine features 3 different modes of driving: EV drive mode, Hybrid drive mode, and Engine drive mode to get the best efficiency out of your vehicle.

The e:HEV engine is in line with Honda’s initiative to minimize energy consumption, and also to electrify two-thirds of its global automobile unit sales by the year 2030.

Conclusion

Honda’s future looks bright as they continue to evolve to provide a more convenient future for their customers. Not only will they continue to experiment with new technology, they will continue to develop new products that work well in line with the Honda branding. We can only stay tuned to Honda to discover more exciting and industry-leading technological advancements.

3 Ways To Make Your Honda Car Look Brand New

Category : News

Your Honda has seen better days, so it’s natural that you’re concerned about how it’s looking. You have flashbacks to the moment when you first drove your car out of the showroom, and you’d probably give anything to make your car look like that again.

But the reality is that everything deteriorates with time, even your car. From old technology, to scratches all over the paintwork and fading colors, your Honda has become a shadow of its former self.

Today we’re going to help you do just that with these three surefire ways of bringing your beloved Honda back to its former glory days and make it look like a brand new one.

1. Add In New Technology to your Old Car

Honda Car Interior

One sure sign of an older car is when the technology inside is out of date. Each year new cars come with more sophisticated technology than the last, and after a few years it becomes obvious that a car is no longer the newest model.

For example, older models of the Honda Civic may not have the 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen interface that is compatible with both the Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ suites of applications. This can also apply to safety features like Honda’s next gen Advanced Safety Technology; Honda SENSING which is not found in older models.

If you want to make your car feel like a newer model, consider upgrading the technology. For example, you can replace your car’s original radio with something that has Bluetooth connectivity, or you can also choose to install a start-stop remote engine starter.

While it depends on how old your car is, you’ll be a little limited as to what you can upgrade. But with a little bit of work, you can bring your car a little closer to the newest models.

2. Change Your Seats

Honda Car Seat

Depending on how old your car is, you’ll definitely be able to see that you’ll have worn down seats. This is because we spend so much time sitting on the seats, that over time they slowly begin to break down. Whether it’s tiny rips, or the fading of the fabric, or even if your cushions aren’t as comfortable as they once were, you’ll soon feel it, especially if you’ve sat in a much newer car.

To combat this, you can choose to have some work done to your seats. Have the fabric replaced and re-stuffed if necessary. Not only will the inside of the car end up looking great, you and your passengers will be more comfortable during the drive as well.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can also opt for a more sportier look for your car by swapping out your existing seats for something like suspension seats or racing bucket seats. Honda cars are generally sporty in their design, so getting a modern looking seat will not look out of place at all. Ultimately, it all depends on your budget, and how far you’re willing to go for your car.

3. Keep Your Exterior Looking New

Honda Accord 2021

Too often, many drivers try to enhance the appearance of their cars. They get new headlights, new wheels, and perhaps a new bumper. But many times, drivers overlook the paintwork, which is a big letdown.

A simple repaint can make your car look like a million bucks. And the best part is: You don’t have to repaint your car in its original color, you can get creative and choose a different color. You can even choose a combination of different colors. It doesn’t matter how old your car is, a repaint is a sure way to turn its exterior from bland to brilliant.

Plus, getting that “new” car look will definitely require you to be as detailed as possible.

To get that extra shine, you need to wax your car after you wash it. You can buy wax in the same color of your car to make the paint pop again. Sun exposure can make your ride look dull, but a good coating will bring it back to life.

If you have small scratches, you can buy a small tube of car paint to fix that. It’s important to buy it directly from the auto manufacturer to make sure the color is exactly the same. Each car company has its unique greys, blues, reds, and even blacks and whites.

With rain and humidity, the headlights and backlights can become fogged up. There are products that you can use to clear these up too. This will help with visibility at night and also give your car a fresh look.

Conclusion

Bringing your car into modernity isn’t difficult. In fact, you don’t even have to give it an expensive makeover. The key is in paying attention to small details that can change the way your car looks. With a bit of detailing, and changing the necessary parts, you’ll be able to improve your car and make it look brand new.

Honda’s Transformation Into One Of The World’s Most Innovative Automakers

Category : News

Honda is a leading Japanese automaker for the world market. Headquartered in Tokyo, the company was founded in 1946, beginning their production of automobiles in 1963. To date, Honda remains one of the most successful automotive manufacturers on a global scale.

In the age of globalization, automotive makers were still struggling to make money outside of their home markets. The idea of successful business models for a multinational company operating in a globalized commercial environment was to innovate, behave in socially responsible ways, and be strategically creative in a way that could benefit the global market.

However, Honda did not fit that bill.

For one, Honda has looked outward from its home shores well before other manufacturers considered making or even selling products overseas. The company has always believed in global expansion and famously bemoaned the limited growth opportunities in “little Japan”. With a global outlook to “maintain an international footprint”, Honda began to perceive the rest of the world as its potential customer base.

By 1959, Honda was selling motorcycles in the United States, and soon began their production of automotives. In 1974, Honda launched the Honda Civic in the US. Among its lightweight, fuel-efficient passenger cars have been the popular Civic and Accord models.

An Aggressive Global Outlook

The company’s aggressive early globalization strategy was followed by similar successful pushes into other parts of the world. Among some of its most notable achievements include being the first Japanese company to produce cars in China, as well as marking profitable earnings in Southeast Asia and India. It was during this time that Honda became the envy of the rest of the automotive industry.

Due to its global outlook, Honda has achieved a great deal during its lifespan. Honda is the leading engine maker in the world with an output of more than 20 million internal combustion motors annually. The company also holds the record of never having to post a loss in its history, and its automobile operating profit ratios of about five percent consistently top the industry.

So, what is it that has made Honda excel so well in the global market? There are 5 things that distinguish the company from other auto manufacturers around the world.

1. Localizing Globally

Unlike many of the automakers in the world, Honda isn’t controlled by a centralized headquarters. Instead, the company allows each of its subsidiaries to operate as autonomous companies. By avoiding a top-down approach, Honda allows each of its local subsidiaries to design and build vehicles based on local demands.

For example, Honda has its engineering, design and manufacturing functions at every facility around the world. They share R&D and other technical functions across their different markets, which allows each plant to take control so it can react to local preferences and consumer behavior. Not only does this help to scale production according to local preferences, it helps them to save on production costs and improve overall sales as well.

2. Encourage Your Employees to Questions the Status Quo

Honda encourages its staff to question the status quo. As a knowledge-rich organization, they take overall feedback on decisions like design and sales into consideration, in hopes of finding a better strategic or tactical choice to improve themselves. At the company, self-satisfaction is seen as the enemy. It is this sense of critical thinking and constant self-improvement which has driven the company forward.

3. No Reliance on Automation

Automation is one of the ways that global automakers have used as a way to boost efficiency and reduce costs. However, Honda has opted for the road less taken. Honda’s factories are purposefully the most labor intensive in the auto industry, employing robots only in areas that are dangerous or otherwise obviously less fit for humans than machines.

This is because as far as Honda is concerned, the introduction of automation to every stage of the design and build process will quickly make their employees disengaged, which leads to loss of innovation and creativity.

4. Putting Engineers First

Since the company was founded in 1949, all of its CEOs have been engineers; veterans of Honda’s prized autonomous research and development unit.

With an intensive background in R&D, Honda’s CEOs have strength in product and process innovation, primarily in designing new vehicle models and features and in conceiving fresh techniques for building them faster and better. Their success is measured not by quarter-to-quarter results but instead by how well they cultivate individual creativity throughout the organization. The main goal is to be able to build upon Honda’s unique corporate culture to its decentralized localization strategy to produce continuous innovation.

5. Focus on Flexibility

Honda’s focus on flexibility is achieved through a thorough in-house engineering process located at each major production facility, which also serves as an independent operation. The main focus is on local needs, so that each team is able to address any problems that arise in the production line immediately.

For example, Honda can seamlessly produce multiple autos on a single assembly line and switch a line over to a newly designed vehicle within hours. By contrast, it can take months for most other automakers to retool a factory for a new vehicle.

This efficiency and flexibility helps Honda to alter production and capacity of individual models at a moment’s notice, depending on local sales trends. This is what has led the company to deftly navigate through the globalized world today.

Conclusion

Following their tagline, The Power of Dreams, Honda has managed to reinvent, innovate and build on its products to adapt and survive in the globalized world today. The company’s sole focus on its mission and vision has led to the advancement of mobility, as well as providing comfort and convenience to people all over the world. Their enthusiasm in innovating technology and challenging boundaries of mobility advancement have definitely brought them success in today’s world.
